This bill amends the education law to remove the limits on the duration of treatment by a licensed physical therapist when a patient does not have a referral from a physician, dentist, podiatrist, nurse practitioner, or licensed midwife. The bill requires the physical therapist to refer the patient to the appropriate licensed professional if the symptoms are outside the scope of physical therapy practice, and to communicate with the patient's primary care provider during the course of treatment. It also requires the physical therapist to provide written notice to the patient that the treatment may not be covered by their health insurance without a referral, and to keep a signed form attesting to the patient's notice.
