This bill amends the education law to remove the limits on the duration of treatment by a licensed physical therapist when a patient does not have a referral. Specifically, the bill removes the previous requirement that such treatment be limited to 10 visits or 30 days. Instead, the bill requires the physical therapist to refer the patient to an appropriate licensed professional if the symptoms are outside the scope of physical therapy practice, and to communicate with the patient's primary care provider during the course of treatment. The bill also requires the physical therapist to provide written notice to the patient that the treatment may not be covered by the patient's health insurance without a referral.
