This bill allows state Medicaid fraud control units to investigate complaints of patient abuse or neglect in additional settings. Currently, such units may review complaints regarding patients who are in Medicaid-funded health care facilities or certain board-and-care facilities.

AI Summary

This bill, the Medicaid Patient Abuse Prevention Act, aims to clarify the authority of state Medicaid fraud and abuse control units to investigate and prosecute cases of Medicaid patient abuse and neglect in any setting, not just Medicaid-funded health care facilities or certain board-and-care facilities as is currently allowed. The bill expands the units' ability to review complaints regarding Medicaid patients who are in non-institutional or other settings. Additionally, the bill removes the requirement that the Secretary find the funding necessary for the elimination of fraud in order for the units to receive federal funding.
