This bill amends the Education Law to require that all special education students attending schools scheduled to be closed or undergo a significant change be assigned to new schools prior to the implementation of the closing or change. Specifically, the bill requires the chancellor to verify that each new school accepting special education students from the affected school can accommodate those students as well as an additional increase of at least 10% of the total school population. The bill also requires the educational impact statement for a proposed school closing or significant change to include information on the current and projected enrollment at other schools in the affected community district and a list of affected special education students scheduled to attend each such other school.
