This bill creates the Educators' Professional Liability Insurance Program, which provides up to $2 million in liability coverage per occurrence for all employees, including full-time and part-time personnel, of public schools and charter schools in Oklahoma. The program is administered by the Office of Management and Enterprise Services (OMES), which can contract with a licensed insurer, create a self-insured risk pool, or use a combination of both. The Legislature will provide an annual appropriation to cover the costs and associated premiums for the program, and OMES and the State Department of Education will notify eligible employees about the coverage. This bill does not exempt local school districts from any current obligations or duties, nor does it amend or alter The Governmental Tort Claims Act.
