Bill Summary

This bill exempts contractors that provide fire and burglary alarm installation services or locksmith services from the requirement to participate in a registered apprenticeship program under "The Public Works Contractor Registration Act," P.L.1999, c.238 (C.34:11-56.48 et seq.). Under current law, all contractors are required to participate in a registered apprenticeship program under "The Public Works Contractor Registration Act" to be eligible for public works contracts. Contractors in the State that provide fire and alarm installation services and locksmith services have not established apprenticeship programs that have been registered with and approved by the United States Department of Labor. Additionally, the educational and licensing requirements for these contractors are provided for under other laws.

AI Summary

This bill exempts contractors that provide fire and burglary alarm installation services or locksmith services from the requirement to participate in a registered apprenticeship program under "The Public Works Contractor Registration Act." Currently, all contractors must participate in a registered apprenticeship program to be eligible for public works contracts. However, contractors providing fire/alarm installation and locksmith services have not established such programs, and their educational and licensing requirements are covered under other laws. This bill aims to provide an exception for these specific types of contractors from the apprenticeship program requirement to work on public works projects.
