This bill, the Guard and Reserve GI Bill Parity Act of 2020, aims to amend Title 38 of the United States Code to ensure that the time members of the Armed Forces serve on active duty for training qualifies for entitlement to the Post-9/11 Educational Assistance program administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs. The bill expands the definition of "active duty" to include duty under Section 502 of Title 32 (National Guard duty) and certain pay-eligible duty under Sections 204, 206, and 372 of Title 37, effectively broadening the types of service that can count towards eligibility for the Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits. The amendments made by this bill would take effect on August 1, 2021 and apply to academic years beginning on or after that date, as well as to service performed before, on, or after the date of enactment.
