This bill, the Guard and Reserve GI Bill Parity Act of 2020, amends Title 38 of the United States Code to ensure that the time members of the Armed Forces serve on active duty for training qualifies for educational assistance under the Post-9/11 Educational Assistance Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Specifically, the bill expands the definition of "active duty" to include duty under Section 502 of Title 32 (related to National Guard training) and other duty for which members are eligible for pay under certain sections of Title 37. The amendments made by this bill would take effect on August 1, 2021 and apply to academic years beginning on or after that date, as well as service performed before, on, or after the date of enactment.
