This bill proposes to amend Minnesota Statutes to require legislative approval for the governor to extend a peacetime emergency declaration beyond 30 days. Specifically, the bill states that the governor may not extend a peacetime emergency declaration beyond 30 days without the approval of a majority vote of each house of the legislature. The governor may make additional proposals to extend the peacetime emergency, and the legislature may extend it for up to an additional 30 days per proposal. The bill also prohibits the governor from allowing a peacetime emergency declaration to expire and then declaring a new one for the same emergency in an effort to avoid legislative approval.
