This bill requires the governor to obtain legislative approval for extending a peacetime emergency declaration beyond 30 days, with the legislature able to extend it by up to 14 additional days at a time. The bill also prohibits the governor from allowing a peacetime emergency to expire and then declaring a new one for the same emergency in order to avoid seeking legislative approval. Additionally, the bill allows the governor to declare multiple, separate peacetime emergencies at the same time, but any extension of those emergencies would still require legislative approval.
