Bill Summary

A BILL To authorize emergency rental voucher assistance, and for other purposes. 1

AI Summary

This bill authorizes $10 billion in emergency rental assistance vouchers for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide to public housing agencies. The vouchers must be prioritized for families who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or fleeing domestic violence. HUD must quickly allocate at least 50% of the funds to public housing agencies based on their ability to promptly use the vouchers and the need in their area. Remaining funds will be allocated based on similar criteria and the agency's ability to partner with service providers. Public housing agencies that do not use the vouchers promptly will have them reallocated to other agencies. The vouchers will terminate when the assisted family's tenancy ends and the funds will be reallocated for voucher renewals.
