This bill requires the State Department of Education to develop, by July 1, 2022, a program of education on the dangers of gambling and gambling addiction to be provided in public high schools. The program must be coordinated with other state agencies responsible for gambling addiction education, such as the Behavioral Health Administration of the Maryland Department of Health. Beginning in the 2022-2023 school year, county boards of education may require each public high school in the county to include instruction on the dangers of gambling and gambling addiction for students in grades 9 through 12. The State Board may adopt regulations to implement these requirements, and the Department of Education must report to the Governor and the General Assembly by December 31, 2024, on the county boards that required this instruction and the specific programs used.
