This bill includes exposure to the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, as an occupational disease for which compensation shall be payable for disabilities sustained or death incurred by an employee. The bill adds a new paragraph to the workers' compensation law that defines the types of work that could expose workers to COVID-19, such as work in hospitals, medical facilities, public-facing jobs, and work during a period of business closures. The bill also amends the existing workers' compensation law to renumber a paragraph and clarify that the new COVID-19 provisions do not apply to other diseases covered under the law.
