This bill includes exposure to the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, as an occupational disease for which compensation shall be payable for disabilities sustained or death incurred by an employee. The bill defines "novel coronavirus, COVID-19 exposure" as any work that causes workers to be in contact with the public, patients, inmates, residents, parolees, clients, students, customers, diners, persons in the custody of the state or any of its political subdivisions, or travelers during an outbreak of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, or any work that could expose workers to the virus, including work in certain facilities and industries. The bill also specifies that nothing in this provision shall be construed to apply to any disability or death due to any disease described in a separate paragraph of the workers' compensation law.
