This bill amends the New York Penal Law to limit the circumstances in which a police officer or peace officer can use deadly physical force. The bill specifies that deadly force can only be used when the officer reasonably believes the person has committed a felony that threatened or resulted in death or serious bodily injury, and that the person will cause death or serious injury to another person unless immediately apprehended. The bill also requires officers to identify themselves and warn about the use of deadly force, if feasible, and prohibits the use of deadly force against a person who only poses a danger to themselves, unless the officer reasonably believes the person poses an imminent threat of death or serious bodily injury to the officer or another person.
