This bill amends the correction law to provide that inmates shall be compensated at a base rate of $1.20 to $10 per day for work and program assignments, with biannual raises for adequate performance. Inmates working in manufacturing or industrial assignments will receive $5 to $10 per day, and their compensation will not decrease if they are transferred to a different facility or change assignments. The base rate of compensation will be reviewed and adjusted every five years to account for cost of living increases. Inmates who are unable to work or participate in programs due to medical, mental, or age-related conditions will be paid $1 per day, also adjusted for cost of living every five years.
