This bill amends the Correction Law to establish a base rate of compensation for inmates between $1.20 and $10 per day, with biannual raises for adequate performance. It also provides that inmates working in manufacturing or industrial assignments shall receive $5 to $10 per day for the duration of that assignment. Inmates who are unable to work or participate in programs due to medical, mental, or age-related conditions shall be paid $1 per day, with the rate adjusted every 5 years for cost of living. The bill requires the Department of Corrections to review and adjust the base inmate compensation rate every 5 years to account for cost of living increases.
