This bill amends the agriculture and markets law to require perishable and packaged food for human consumption to be clearly marked with a "safety date" (the last day for safe consumption) and a "quality date" (the last day for recommended consumption). The bill defines "perishable food" to include various types of food products, such as eggs, baked goods, dairy products, and prepared foods that require refrigeration. The Commissioner of Agriculture and Markets, in consultation with the Commissioner of Health, will promulgate rules and regulations regarding the content and placement of these safety and quality dates on food products. The bill will take effect 180 days after it becomes law, with the necessary regulations authorized to be made immediately.
