This bill relates to sex offender registration and residency restrictions. It sets limitations on the distance sex offenders may be required to live apart from certain areas. Specifically, the bill amends the Correction Law to: 1) Require sex offenders classified as a level one risk and designated as a sexual predator, sexually violent offender, or predicate sex offender to register annually for life, rather than 20 years. 2) Allow sex offenders classified as a level one or level two risk, who are not designated as a sexual predator, sexually violent offender, or predicate sex offender, to be relieved of the duty to register after a minimum period of 30 years. 3) Authorize local or state law enforcement agencies to monitor and verify sex offender registration compliance, and allow counties to enact residency restrictions for certain high-risk sex offenders, such as prohibiting them from living within 1,000 feet of schools or within a quarter mile of a victim's residence.
