This bill amends the New York City Administrative Code to change the requirements for a landlord to recover possession of a housing unit for their own personal use or the use of an immediate family member. The key changes are: (1) increasing the required length of tenancy for the tenant from 15 to 20 years before the landlord cannot recover the unit, and (2) clarifying that this provision only allows one of the individual owners of a building to recover one unit. The bill also provides that any rental of a unit recovered under this provision to someone other than the original beneficiary within three years may result in a penalty of forfeiting rent increases for the building for that period.
