This bill requires all schools in Pennsylvania that use fossil-fuel-burning heaters or appliances, or have an attached garage, to install operational, centrally located, and approved carbon monoxide alarms in the vicinity of every classroom located on the same story as the fossil-fuel-burning equipment or attached garage within 18 months of the bill's effective date. The bill also imposes a fine of up to $50 for willful failure to install or maintain the required carbon monoxide alarms. The bill provides definitions for key terms such as "approved carbon monoxide alarm," "classroom," "fossil fuel," and "installed," and specifies that the Department of Labor and Industry's authority under the Pennsylvania Construction Code Act is not modified by this act.
