This bill requires lodging establishments that use fossil-fuel-burning equipment or have attached garages to install and maintain operational, approved carbon monoxide (CO) alarms in the vicinity of the fossil-fuel-burning equipment and in every unit on the same story within 18 months of the bill's effective date. Failure to install or maintain the required CO alarms is punishable by a fine of up to $50. The bill defines key terms such as "approved carbon monoxide alarm," "fossil fuel," "installed," "lodging establishment," "operational," and "unit." The Department of Labor and Industry's authority under the Pennsylvania Construction Code Act is not affected by this bill.
