This bill modifies provisions related to the escape and identification requirements for farmed Cervidae (deer and elk) in Minnesota. The key changes include: (1) requiring owners to immediately notify the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) if farmed Cervidae escape, rather than waiting 24 hours; (2) allowing licensed hunters to legally kill and possess escaped farmed Cervidae; (3) requiring escaped farmed Cervidae killed by hunters or the DNR to be tested for chronic wasting disease at the owner's expense; and (4) adding requirements for the identification of farmed Cervidae, including the use of global positioning system technology or contact information to help identify the owner of escaped animals.
