This bill requires certain motor vehicles registered in New York state with a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or less, manufactured or assembled after July 1, 2023, to be equipped with a functioning system that can detect the presence of an occupant in a rear seat and provide a warning after the vehicle's engine or motor is deactivated. The bill excludes motorcycles, commercial motor vehicles, and combinations of commercial motor vehicles and trailers from this requirement. The bill also includes a provision that it would be deemed repealed if any federal agency or court determines it would render New York state out of compliance with federal law or regulation.
