AI Summary
This bill, known as the "Sexual Assault Reform Act of 2021", aims to address several aspects of sexual assault investigations and evidence handling in Georgia. It requires sexual assault protocol committees to submit annual compliance certifications to the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council. It also mandates that law enforcement agencies maintain physical evidence from sexual assaults for at least 12 months, even if the victim chooses not to report the crime initially. Additionally, the bill establishes a statewide sexual assault kit tracking system to monitor the status and location of kits throughout the criminal justice process. Finally, it requires law enforcement agencies to enter certain information related to serial or random sexual crimes into the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program database maintained by the FBI, and provides a process for individuals to request the removal of their information from the database.
