This bill ensures that certain youth being discharged from juvenile justice facilities have access to Medicaid while they await their Medicaid eligibility determination. Specifically, it provides presumptive Medicaid eligibility for youth who have been placed in court-ordered placements, which allows them to receive Medicaid-covered services immediately upon their release, until their formal Medicaid eligibility is determined or for a period of 60 days, whichever comes first. This is intended to ensure these young people have access to necessary medical care during the period between their release and the completion of the Medicaid application process.
