This bill amends Minnesota Statutes to require legislative approval for extending a peacetime emergency declaration beyond 30 days. Currently, the governor can declare a peacetime emergency and extend it for up to 30 days, but this bill would require a majority vote of each legislative chamber to continue the emergency declaration for more than 30 days. If the legislature is not in session when the governor seeks to extend the emergency beyond 30 days, the governor must immediately convene the legislature. The bill aims to provide legislative oversight for extended peacetime emergencies declared by the governor.
