AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring a course of study in the prevention of eating disorders

This bill amends the New York Education Law to require a course of study on the prevention of eating disorders for all students in grades 5 through 12 in public schools. The Commissioner of Education, in consultation with the Department of Health, will define the program, which must include instruction for students, parents, and school personnel. The Commissioner may also provide technical assistance to help develop age-appropriate curricula to raise awareness, provide skills and information, and support the prevention of eating disorders.
