AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring a course of study in the prevention of eating disorders

This bill amends the Education Law to require that all public school students in grades 5 through 12 receive instruction designed to prevent eating disorders. The program, to be defined by the Commissioner of Education in consultation with the Department of Health, will educate students, parents, and school personnel about eating disorder prevention. The Commissioner may also provide technical assistance to help develop age-appropriate curricula to raise awareness, provide skills and information, and support students in preventing eating disorders.
