This Concurrent Resolution recognizes the deep historical, cultural, and strategic connections shared by the peoples of Oceania, a vast region of islands in the Pacific Ocean that includes Hawaii, acknowledging their shared ancestry, linguistic roots, and traditional practices like the cultivation of taro. It condemns discrimination and violence against Pacific Islanders and urges the Governor of Hawaii to collaborate with governments of Pacific Island nations on important policy issues such as addressing sea-level rise, protecting the environment, mitigating natural disasters, promoting economic development, managing tourism, improving access to healthcare and essential services, supporting agriculture, and upholding indigenous rights. Furthermore, it calls for the implementation of programs and training specifically designed to combat discrimination faced by Pacific Island communities.
