This bill directs the Secretary of State to designate certain zip codes in Brooklyn, New York as "cease and desist zones" within 90 days of the bill's effective date. This will allow homeowners in those areas, which are experiencing intense and repeated real estate solicitation, to file a statement with the Secretary of State to be placed on a "cease and desist list." Real estate brokers and others in the real estate business will then be prohibited from soliciting those homeowners on the list to sell their properties. The bill aims to curb aggressive real estate practices and protect homeowners, especially in neighborhoods experiencing rapid gentrification, from deceptive tactics and potential deed theft.
