This bill amends Minnesota Statutes 2020, Section 12.31, Subdivision 2, to require a three-fifths majority vote in each house of the legislature to extend a governor's peacetime emergency declaration beyond 30 days. Previously, the legislature could terminate such a declaration, but now they can only extend it by a three-fifths majority vote upon the governor's request, for up to an additional 30 days. The bill also requires the governor to call the legislature into session immediately if they need to extend a peacetime emergency declaration beyond 30 days when the legislature is not already sitting.
