This bill amends Chapter 271 of the General Laws to allow for the hosting and playing of social card games, such as poker, pinochle, bridge, rummy, canasta, or hearts, at municipal senior centers in the Commonwealth. The key provisions are: (1) the winnings from a single game or session cannot exceed $50, (2) the amount of money contributed by a single player during the entire session cannot exceed $5, (3) all money wagered must be distributed to the players by the end of the session, (4) all players must be natural persons who attend and compete on equal terms, and (5) no person can receive any profit outside of their personal winnings from the game. The bill also clarifies that private establishments may still refuse to permit the playing of such social card games.
