This bill aims to develop a coordinated stroke care system in the state. It requires the Department of Public Health to establish various measures to improve stroke care, including: (1) training emergency medical services (EMS) personnel on the FAST-ED stroke scale; (2) regularly reviewing and updating data collected on stroke patients; (3) validating and providing follow-up with Primary Stroke Service hospitals to ensure quality care; (4) launching a public education campaign on stroke symptoms. The bill also directs the department to make recommendations to enhance data collection on stroke patients, such as documenting the time between a patient's arrival at the hospital and the initiation of treatment. Finally, the department may modify its point-of-entry plan to enable direct transport of stroke patients to endovascular thrombectomy-capable facilities if certain conditions are met, and it must provide stroke data reports to all designated Primary Stroke Service hospitals.
