This bill amends the definition of "Class I renewable energy generating sources" and "Class II renewable energy generating sources" in Section 11F of Chapter 25A of the Massachusetts General Laws. The key provisions are: - Class I renewable energy sources now include new and relicensed hydroelectric facilities, or incremental new energy from increased capacity or efficiency improvements at existing hydroelectric facilities, provided they meet certain environmental standards. These facilities must have a capacity of up to 30 megawatts and cannot involve pumped storage of water or the construction of new dams. - Class II renewable energy sources include existing hydroelectric facilities up to 7.5 megawatts, provided they meet certain environmental standards. - Facilities that receive a new license after January 1, 2021 can choose to participate as a Class I renewable generating source, and will no longer be considered a Class II source.
