This bill amends the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to provide a definition for "electronic monitoring device" and to allow courts to require defendants in protection from abuse orders to wear such a device. The device is defined as one that actively and continuously monitors the defendant's location within a 100-mile radius, allows law enforcement to receive and retain the location data, and cannot be removed without specialized equipment. The court can order the defendant to wear the device for the entire duration of the protection order, unless good cause is shown to remove it earlier. The bill aims to enhance the ability of protection orders to monitor and restrict the movements of defendants who pose a substantial risk of violating the order or committing a crime against the victim.
