This bill amends the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to define "public safety projects" and allow counties to create public safety authorities to provide fire protection, emergency medical, and related services. The bill also grants these authorities the power to fix, alter, charge, and collect reasonable and uniform rates and charges for their services. Existing public safety authorities can continue operating without limitation, and municipalities can create joint public safety authorities under certain conditions if the county does not. The bill also clarifies that public safety authorities cannot directly employ firefighters or provide fire protection services.
