This bill, the Advancing Facial Recognition Technology Act, requires the Secretary of Commerce and the Federal Trade Commission to conduct a study on the impact of facial recognition technology on U.S. businesses engaged in interstate commerce. The study will survey the facial recognition technology industry, Federal activity related to the industry, international strategies on facial recognition technology, the marketplace and supply chain, and potential harms to individuals. The bill also requires the Secretary and Commission to submit a report to Congress with recommendations to address any duplicative Federal regulations, promote the development and adoption of facial recognition technology, develop policies for states, create a national strategy to advance U.S. business sectors in this technology, mitigate risks to the marketplace and supply chain, and develop legislation to implement the recommendations.
