This bill requires the Secretary of Commerce and the Federal Trade Commission to conduct a study on the impact of facial recognition technology on U.S. businesses engaged in interstate commerce. The study will survey the facial recognition technology industry, federal agency activities related to this technology, international strategies, the marketplace and supply chain, and potential harms to individuals. Based on the study findings, the agencies will provide recommendations to address duplicative federal regulations, promote the growth and adoption of facial recognition technology, develop policies for states, create a national strategy to advance U.S. business sectors in this technology, mitigate risks to the marketplace and supply chain, and propose legislation to implement these recommendations.
