This bill, the American Grown Act, requires that any cut flowers or cut greens displayed in public areas of certain federal buildings, such as the White House, State Department, and Department of Defense, must be produced in the United States. The bill defines "produced in the United States" as grown in any of the several states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories and possessions, or areas under the jurisdiction of federally recognized Native American tribes. The limitation does not apply to personal displays by federal officers or employees. The bill would take effect one year after its enactment.
