Bill Summary
AN ACT to amend the public officers law, in relation to publishing records of public interest by agencies and the state legislature
AI Summary
This bill amends the Public Officers Law to require government agencies and the state legislature to publish records of public interest on their websites, when they have the ability to do so. The bill also provides guidance on creating accessible records and allows agencies to remove records that are no longer of substantial public interest or have reached the end of their legal retention period. The bill does not apply to records that would constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy. The Committee on Open Government is required to promulgate regulations to effectuate this new requirement.
