This bill, the Keep STEM Talent Act of 2021, aims to provide lawful permanent resident status for certain advanced STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) degree holders. Specifically, it would exempt from numerical limitations those aliens who have earned a master's or higher degree in a STEM field from a U.S. institution of higher education, have a job offer or are employed in a STEM field related to their degree at a wage higher than the median for that occupation, and are otherwise admissible. The bill also allows F-1 nonimmigrant students pursuing advanced STEM degrees to maintain dual intent, meaning they can seek lawful permanent residency while on a student visa.
