This bill, the MODERN WIC Act of 2021 or the More Options to Develop and Enhance Remote Nutrition in WIC Act of 2021, amends the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 to allow for video or telephone certifications under the special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants, and children (WIC). The bill permits WIC participants to be certified or recertified remotely through video technology, enables states to provide food instruments (e.g., electronic benefit cards) to participants through means that do not require them to travel to local agencies, and requires an annual $60 million investment in WIC technology platforms to enhance program services, access, and benefit redemption.
