This bill, the MODERN WIC Act of 2022, amends the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 to allow video or telephone certifications under the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). It permits WIC participants to complete the certification process remotely, either through a telephone appointment or other remote technology, as long as the necessary information is obtained within 90 days before or after the certification appointment. The bill also allows WIC state agencies to provide food instruments, including electronic benefit transfer cards, to participants through means that do not require them to travel to a local agency, such as by mailing or remote issuance. Additionally, the bill requires the Secretary to allocate $60 million for establishing, developing, improving, replacing, or administering technology platforms that enhance WIC services, access, or benefit redemption.
