Bill Summary

Protecting the health and safety of people in restaurants

AI Summary

This bill amends Chapter 94 of the General Laws in Massachusetts to require each food establishment (with the exception of take-out only restaurants and food trucks) to have an employee trained in approved manual procedures to remove food lodged in a person's throat. The bill also requires food establishments to have adequate insurance coverage for these trained employees, and to display a poster instructing customers on how to assist a choking person. The bill provides liability protection for anyone who, in good faith, volunteers to remove food lodged in a person's throat in an emergency.
