Environment – Synthetic Turf and Turf Infill – Chain of Custody
AI Summary
This bill establishes a chain of custody reporting system for synthetic turf and turf infill sold or distributed in the state of Maryland. Producers of these materials must track and report the chain of custody from manufacture to installation, use, and final removal, which may include reuse, recycling, or disposal. Owners of existing synthetic turf and infill must also report the current location and chain of custody information. The Department of the Environment will serve as the repository for this information and publish it on their website. Violations of the reporting requirements can result in written warnings and civil penalties. The bill takes effect on October 1, 2022.
