This bill amends the education law to provide the Board of Regents with final approval authority over all proposed and renewed charter schools. Under the new provisions, the Board of Regents must approve any resubmitted charter proposal, and the charter entity cannot approve a resubmitted proposal if the Board of Regents recommends that it be abandoned. The bill removes the previous requirement that the Board of Regents approve a resubmitted charter proposal from certain charter entities within 30 days or it would be deemed approved.
