This Joint Resolution establishes the New Jersey Pharmacogenomics Commission, a 13-member body tasked with studying pharmacogenomics, which is the science of how a person's unique genetic makeup influences their response to medications, including their effectiveness and potential side effects. The commission will investigate various aspects of pharmacogenomics, such as its costs, benefits to patients and healthcare providers, applications beyond traditional medicine like addressing the opioid crisis, its role in personalized medicine, and how to educate the public and medical professionals about its use. The commission's members will be appointed by the Governor, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the General Assembly, representing diverse fields including healthcare, pharmacy, and genetics. After organizing and holding public hearings in both northern and southern New Jersey, the commission must submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the Governor and the Legislature within six months of its organization, after which it will expire.
