This Joint Resolution establishes the New Jersey Pharmacogenomics Commission, a 13-member body tasked with studying pharmacogenomics, which is the science of how a person's genes affect their response to medications. The commission will investigate various aspects of pharmacogenomics, including its costs, benefits to patients and healthcare providers, potential applications beyond medicine, its role in personalized medicine, and how to educate the public and medical professionals about its use. The commission's members will represent various state departments, universities, and professional organizations, and will serve without pay but be reimbursed for expenses. After holding public hearings in northern and southern New Jersey, the commission will submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the Governor and Legislature, after which it will be dissolved.
