This bill, the Healthy Meal Time Act of 2022, amends the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act to require the Secretary of Agriculture to conduct a study on the time meals are served, recess is offered, and the duration of lunch periods at schools participating in the school lunch program. The bill also requires the Secretary to establish a task force to review the study findings and other research, and develop best practices to ensure student health and appropriate nutritional intake. The Secretary must then issue guidance to schools on these best practices. The bill authorizes $1 million for fiscal year 2023 to carry out these provisions.
